Does completing the civil war in Skyrim affect other quests? ›

Short answer.. there are no adverse effects whatever you choose.. just slightly different paths leading to the end. VexNoFace likes it rough. If you start the Civil War quest finish it,because there can be problems with the main storyline.

If you have yet to bring the Skyrim Civil War to a conclusion, you can bring the conflict to a temporary halt by calling peace talks. Using the Graybeards' authority, you bring leaders from each side to the negotiating table. There is no diplomacy skill tree, and there will be consequences for these decisions.

Conclusion: The Empire is the better choice. It will benifit everyone better, and every reason you have to dislike them would be gone after the defeat of the Thalmor/Aldmeri Dimionion.

Pick Imperial if you want to play a character who is originally from a place aside from Skyrim, as it doesn't make sense to fight under a banner that ultimately won't accept you. Pick Stormcloak if you believe the Empire has no right to say what Skyrim denizens can and can't do, especially if you are a Nord.

If I remember right, if you are already thane of a hold and that hold comes under new management after the civil war, then you will be grandfathered in as a thane to the new jarl. You just have to ask them to become Thane again and they'll make you one.

Skyrim doesn't have the same faction reputation system that the Fallout games have, so you can join the Stormcloaks and march into Solitude in full Stormcloak regalia with no consequences whatsoever.

Give Riften to Tallius if you're siding with him, give him Dawnstar if you're Stormcloak. Nothing really affects gameplay or story, it's just a personal preference.

Finishing the civil war before the main questline will cause you to skip over a pretty interesting quest in the main questline. I'd do main quest first, at least until you finish a quest in the questline called "Season Unending."

A Stormcloak victory in the civil war leads to Ulfric becoming High King of Skyrim and declaring the country's independence. This leaves the Tamrielic Empire with only the Cyrodiil and High Rock territories, alongside several smaller provinces.

Crimson Nirnroots are required for the quest A Return To Your Roots. And although it takes a long time, the reward is worth all the effort.

1 Death Incarnate

Death Incarnate comes at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, as the player tries to defend the brotherhood from Commander Maro and his men. After a night spent hiding in the Night Mother's sarcophagus, the Dragonborn will discover that Astrid betrayed the Dark Brotherhood.

Certain NPC's can die in the fighting, making several smaller quests unable to complete. A certain main quest is directly linked to NOT finishing the Civil War. If you are at a certain point in the Civil War, you cannot continue in the main quest, there are dialogue options missing.

The only main difference it has is how the story progresses, while the end result is the same... In other words whether you pick a side, or don't, it doesn't influence the ending of the primary quest, just the path you take to reach the ending changes...

Nothing happens, all quests are separate from one another, so nothing you have done would affect the game at all. Keep in mind that there is a bug right now and if you have done the civil war quest before the main quest, you will be stuck on the main quest.
